Overview

Making reading engaging and a lifelong joy for students can make a world of difference throughout their lives. NU’s School of Education offers a Master of Education specialization in Reading Education. The University’s exemplary reputation for instructional quality will provide a strong foundation involving scholarship, research, and enhanced leadership skills for reading educators.

In this program specialization, you will learn to apply educational leadership principles and theories to real-world educational problems, analyze educational reading issues and make decisions and/or recommendations that integrate cultural sensitivity. You will also be asked to demonstrate effective use of current technology, reflect on likely situations, practically integrate theories, and learn from case studies. You will be required to communicate effectively and in a caring manner in a variety of learning contexts. You will also explore the history of literacy in America within a cultural, sociological, political, and economic framework.

Upon graduation, our specialization in reading will have strengthened and polished your expertise in the teaching of the skills and strategies needed for developing proficiency in literacy in grades K-12.
