Paralegal Certificate

Become an Important Member of Any Legal Team

Approved by the American Bar Association, the Paralegal Certificate curriculum provides you with the practical skills, knowledge, and values necessary to become an effective member of a legal team. This certificate prepares you to perform research, drafting, investigatory, record-keeping, and related administrative functions under the supervision of an attorney or court.

Experienced faculty, comprised of practicing attorneys and legal professionals, will guide you in your coursework, including instruction in legal research, drafting legal documents, appraising, pleading, courthouse procedures, and legal specializations. As a student, you will be supported by an extensive virtual law library, access to LexisNexis, and access to other law databases commonly used in the legal services industry.

The Paralegal Certificate includes 11 ABA-approved courses that apply to NCU’s BA in Legal Studies program. Through these courses, you will complete at least the 9 semester units of asynchronous instruction required by the ABA. Once the certificate is completed, you will be prepared to practice as a paralegal. Additionally, you will earn a legal technology certification credential as part of the program.

To gain specialized skills in legal technology, you can add the Advanced Legal Technology specialization as part of your program. This specialization will immediately contribute to employers with regard to legal technology use. Upon completion, you will be able to suggest appropriate software for various tasks in a legal environment to be more efficient and cost effective.
