NCU Kick-Starter Grant recipient and aspiring author, Jane Symkoviak, was an elementary school teacher for 18 years before deciding to pursue her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT) degree at Northcentral University.

Symkoviak discovered how to fulfill her desire to write while making a difference in the lives of grade school children. “I had the idea to create a series of picture books,” she said.

Helping Released Inmates “Leave the Past in the Past” and Rebuild their Lives

William Hancock, NCU Kick-Starter Grant recipient and Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration student, has seen first-hand how difficult it is for former inmates to rebuild their lives.

“I have known several people in my life who have had felonious backgrounds,” he explains. “I have seen them struggle in life more than the average citizen in society.”

The NCU Kick-Starter grant recipient will use the $20,000 grant he will receive upon graduation to establish an organization that will help newly released prisoners reintegrate into society.
