In today’s marketplace, consumers have many choices. As a result, businesses and entrepreneurs need to find ways to stand out in a crowded marketplace. One way to do this is through business creativity and innovation.
To get your creative juices flowing, here are five ways to increase your business creativity:
Walk Away: Don’t approach a project with tunnel vision. While laser focus can be helpful for completing projects on time, it can stifle creativity. Being creative allows your brain to have free reign and enthusiastically explore different concepts and approaches. If you’re stuck on a project, take some time to get away from it. Go for a walk, work on a different task, or talk to a co-worker. By taking your focus off of the problem, your brain can process creative thoughts.
Release Your Inner Child: As adults, we often shy away from doing anything at which we don’t think we’ll do well. But innovation can’t happen by doing things as you always have done them. Let go of the need to be perfect at something, and explore different and creative ideas.
Embrace an Occasional Failure: Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, and other successful entrepreneurs experienced some failures in their past. The difference with these entrepreneurs is that they didn’t let those get them down. One should look at why something didn’t work and learn from it. Failing at one thing does not mean that a person is a failure.
Take Time: Being on a deadline can spur you to complete a project when it’s due, but often business creativity and innovation come when you have the luxury of time. The more time you have, the more opportunities you can have to brainstorm creative ideas with others, turn the problem over in your own mind and take an initial good idea to great.
Dream Big: To accomplish big things, you need to believe you can. Don’t put artificial boundaries on your ideas. Dream large when approaching business creativity and innovation. Approach things with an open mind and see what happens.
