A faculty mentored approach
With Northcentral University, you can receive feedback from your professor in Quebec at the same time you are submitting an assignment to your other professor in California—all without the use of a Ford Delorean or a flux capacitor.
Northcentral University is an online university that employs a unique faculty mentored approach to education. Upon enrollment, each Student is assigned a faculty mentor. The mentor has professional experience in the specialty the Student is studying, and is trained in how to instruct using online methods. Teaching from locations around the world, these mentors make learning at Northcentral University a true cosmopolitan university experience.
"We have been able to attract an amazing pool of talent in terms of mentors from all over the world by being online and not requiring physical residency,” explains Dr. Heather Frederick, Dean of the School of Behavioral and Health Sciences.
Students will have several different mentors spanning their tenure at Northcentral University, depending on the variety of courses they take and the areas of study they explore. A mentor is assigned a Student only after completing a rigorous process aimed to guarantee success. The university actively pursues mentors who have recognized expertise in their particular discipline and possess a Doctoral degree in that field. Once these qualifications have been met, a mentor is trained in effectively teaching through an online interface to ensure maximum success. This highly individualized approach elevates Northcentral University from other educational institutions—online and on land.
"Most of our competitors offer a classroom environment where they have 10 or 20 Students sitting in a class. We offer a classroom environment of only one Student sitting in that class with that faculty member,” says Northcentral University President Clinton Gardner. "And that makes us different from our competitors.”
Once a Student has been assigned to a mentor—or several—the mentor(s) will observe, guide and evaluate the Student’s progress throughout the course. This vital assistance and feedback refines a Student’s knowledge, as well as their applied and critical thinking skills, for a truly integrated education experience.
Dr. Ralph Kuehn, Director of Mentors and Quality Assurance at Northcentral University, credits the success of this system to the different roles and responsibilities of each party.
"Unlike the traditional classroom, there are no lectures, peers or threads to which the Student is required to post,” Dr. Kuehn says. "The Student is focused on the activity, and the mentor is focused on the Student.”
Didn’t think it was possible to be two places at once? Northcentral University makes it possible to earn an advanced degree from anywhere you choose—with your mentor by your side.
