7/3/2013 - Northcentral University Donates $5,000 to Childhelp® Speak Up Be Safe™ Program
Initiative provides school-based, child abuse prevention education.
PRESCOTT VALLEY, ARIZ, July 3, 2013 – Northcentral University (NCU) today announced a $5,000 donation to Childhelp's Speak Up Be Safe Program, a school-based child abuse prevention education program focused on child safety.
"We are very proud to be able to support this initiative to provide child abuse prevention education in our nation's schools," said NCU Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Scott Burrus. "As a research-based program, Speak Up Be Safe is able to promote reflection and learning in a way that engages students and helps them develop skills to recognize safe vs. unsafe situations."
The donation was originally announced during the NCU's annual graduation ceremony, which took place Saturday, June 8, at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. Childhelp co-founders Sara O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson were presented honorary doctorates in recognition of their significant contributions to society in establishing a leading national non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of child abuse and neglect.
"Mrs. O'Meara and Mrs. Fedderson are a wonderful example of what it means to become valuable contributors to their communities and society as a whole, which is what we hope to instill in all of graduates here at NCU," Burrus continued. "Their words of encouragement were truly inspirational for all of our graduates and guests."
