James Billings, Ph.D., L.M.F.T, Named Dean of NCU’s School of Marriage and Family Sciences
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA, May 21, 2014 – Northcentral University (NCU), a global online graduate school, today announced that Dr. James Billings has been named Dean of the School of Marriage and Family Sciences. The School of Marriage and Family Sciences is one of four schools at NCU; it offers a COAMFTE-accredited MAMFT as well as a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy and graduate-level certificates.
As Dean, Dr. Billings will oversee the academic administration of the School. This includes new program development, assessment and application for COAMFTE accreditation for the Ph.D. program.
Dr. Billings completed his Ph.D. at Loma Linda University. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist in California and Texas, as well as an American Association of Marriage and Family Therapist (AAMFT) approved supervisor. This is in addition to his role as a state-approved clinical supervisor for MFTs in California and Texas.
“Dr. Billings has been a valuable asset to NCU’s marriage and family therapy education team and was instrumental during the accreditation process of our MAMFT program by COAMFTE,” said NCU Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Scott Burrus. “We are very pleased to have him join NCU’s academic leadership team. I know he shares our commitment to providing today’s working professionals with richly-engaging, professionally relevant and academically rigorous academic programs.”
Dr. Billings’ research has been published in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy and he haspresented at numerous conferences, including those hosted by the AAMFT. In 2013, he was elected as a member of COAMFTE.
Dr. Billings joined NCU in 2006 as an adjunct faculty. In 2010 he accepted a full-time position as Academic Coordinator for the MFT programs, and most recently served as Assistant Dean of the School of Marriage and Family Sciences and Program Director for marriage and family therapy programs.
