Northcentral University Appoints Dr. Scott Burrus to Vice Provost Position Global leader in 100% online higher education focuses on student success and retention by targeting ways to enhance academic quality and faculty accountability.
PRESCOTT VALLEY, ARIZONA, August 31, 2011 — Renewing its commitment to provide quality educational opportunities and programs, Northcentral University has appointed Dr. Scott Burrus to the newly created Vice Provost position. Dr. Burrus will work directly with the President, Provost, Chief Operating Officer, and the Deans on initiatives designed to improve first year student retention, improve student graduation rates, and develop and implement strategies to enhance the teaching and learning environment. According to Dr. Burrus this position is unique to an online university.
“We will take a two-pronged approach,” said Dr. Burrus of accomplishing the goals of his position. “Student success and retention can be tied directly to enhancing academic quality and faculty accountability.” Northcentral will follow best practices in the areas of academic quality by evaluating and improving the student experience, curriculum, individual course offerings, and the dissertation phase for online doctoral programs. Faculty accountability will focus not only on faculty training but on engaging faculty and improving their professional experience. Among the first initiatives, Dr. Burrus will assist the School Deans in developing a strong student retention-focused first three-course sequence for each online degree program.
Dr. Scott Burrus holds a PhD in Psychology from Northcentral University and a Master of Arts in Applied Psychology from Golden State University. In addition to his years of service in the Office of Academic Research at Northcentral, Dr. Burrus' experience includes working for the largest proprietary art college in the country, which involved enrollment and retention. Dr. Burrus also has experience with a range of academic administrative areas, including, but not limited to course design, faculty training and education program improvement. Northcentral is among four of the online universities Dr. Burrus has worked for, at various levels, and one of six total educational institutions, bringing a multifaceted perspective to Northcentral’s student success and retention goals.
