The CAGS in Education Technology Management is designed for education professionals who are developing their leadership
role in the field of educational technology. Focus of the CAGS program is in establishing a knowledge-base and application
of new technologies, examining current research in the field and designing curriculum and instruction through technology
integration and instructional planning. This CAGS is aligned to the Education Technology Management specialization.
LTM5000 - Educational Applications of the Internet
This course takes the Learner from fundamental to intermediate use of the Internet as a resource for curriculum development and instruction.
Learners will explore history of the Internet, Internet services, forms of Internet communication and retrieval including e-mail, listserv,
Usenet newsgroups, ftp, web browsers and Internet search engines. Educational web sites will be examined and evaluated. Current issues and
controversies concerning Internet access in the education environment will be discussed and key terms and concepts for navigating the
information highway will be presented. Participants will learn to use the web to locate, examine and evaluate instructional resources to
design instructional activities for education or training. Synchronous and asynchronous forms of web communication will be explored along
with issues of acceptable Internet use for educational purposes. This is the first course Learners pursuing the Education Technology
Management specialization take in the series of 18 credits.
LTM5003 - Educational Applications of Educational Media
This course examines learning theory, principles, and issues in effective media design and the applications of technology in the educational
environment. Learners develop an instructional plan and produce instructional materials utilizing theory, media, and technologies applied to
specific instructional goals. Strengths, limitations, and philosophies of educational technology are explored.
LTM5005 - The Connected Classroom: Curriculum Development and Technology
This course examines the role of technology in the curriculum and its impact on school change. Research on the design of computer aided
instruction and computer utilization whether it is in the corporate training environment, and/or the K-12 or post-secondary classroom will
be explored. Methods of educational software evaluation, selection, and acquisition are introduced. Students will apply the modern technologies
and principles of curriculum development in producing programs of instruction.
LTM5006 - Designing Instructional Materials for the WWW
This course examines and demonstrates the elements of World Wide Web page development for educational purposes. Learning theories, design and
copyright issues, HTML editors, resources, and varied tools for Web page publication are explored. Participants will design and publish a basic
WWW page that will supplement a problem-based learning project.
LTM5007 - Multimedia Production Management
This course provides a practical foundation for effective organization and management of multimedia production appropriate for education or
training. Historical, conceptual and practical issues in design and development of multimedia are introduced. Varied applications and
multimedia design techniques will be explored. Learners will evaluate multimedia products including electronic portfolios, mediated supplemental
study materials and tutorials and produce a multimedia project based on the principles of effective media design.
LTM5011 - Visual Literacy in the Digital World
This course is designed to help educators acquire the skills necessary to understand visual literacy and its impact on the learning process.
Visual literacy explores how individuals interpret visual messages, how they understand and use images, and how they express themselves in
terms of visual imagery. In today’s digital world, educators must understand the fundamentals of visual and technological literacy since
much of the learning process of students today involves the use of digital media and visuals. An understanding of visual literacy will help
all educators to keep pace with the way images are used throughout the 21st century classroom.
