Assessment and Testing provides Learners working in educational settings opportunities to research and understand
the underpinnings of the current No Child Left Behind legislation as it relates to accountability and high stakes
testing. Learners will study historical precedents, local and federal accountability rules, intended and unintended
consequences of high stakes testing, as well as the impact of high stakes testing on the individual student, the
school, the community, and the country. Issues related to standardized tests commonly used in education settings
are examined. This CAGS is aligned to the Curriculum and Teaching specialization.
CT5000 - Curriculum and Instructional Strategies
This course provides an overview of theories, principles, practices and issues in curriculum and instruction. It explores
the pedagogical and curricular requirements in schools and integrates theory and practice. This course focuses on the design,
implementation and evaluation of curricula. Using six architectural principles as a framework, the course investigates
strategies and methods to teach diverse learners.
CT5008 - High Stakes Testing: Implications for Teaching and Learning
This course provides Learners working in educational settings opportunities to research and understand the underpinnings
of the current No Child Left Behind legislation as it relates to accountability and high stakes testing. Learners will
study historical precedents, local and federal accountability rules, intended and unintended consequences of high stakes
testing, as well as the impact of high stakes testing on the individual student, the school, the community, and the country.
Learners will be encouraged to distinguish between testing and accountability. Reflection and discussion will enhance deep
understanding.
ED5014 - School Organization
Examines the organizational structure of schools and school systems and their relationships to and effects on school
programs, teaching strategies, testing and measurement, and evaluaton of programs in schools.
ED5029 - Measurement and Assessment in Education
This course is designed to facilitate graduate students in acquiring the fundamental concepts, principles, theories, and techniques
of educational measurement and classroom assessment. The underlying premise for the value of such knowledge for educators is that
it is necessary for sound educational decision-making. Moreover, graduate students will acquire competence in the planning and
development of informal classroom assessments and the evaluation of standardized tests.
LTM5008 - Assessment Strategies for Technology Management in Education
This course examines applications of technology in design and development of assessment techniques and instruments. Current assessment
tools and strategies will be explored and evaluated including design and development of assessment plans, teacher-made tests, alternative
and multicultural assessment instruments, and portfolios. Program evaluation, standardized testing in education, and the relationship of
learning, assessment and decision-making will also be examined.
LTM5012 - Leadership in Educational Technology
This course provides a comprehensive approach to understanding the components necessary for educational leaders to make decisions
regarding technology. These components include planning, designing, implementing and evaluating educational technology. This course focuses
specifically on the societal issues that relate to the use of technology in schools, effective professional development for staff, as well
as the factors involved in local, state, and national technology planning.
