NCU's Alpha Phi Sigma Chapter Conducts Installation

Prescott Valley, Arizona – June 12, 2008 — Northcentral University (www.ncu.edu), an innovator in online higher education, is pleased to announce that Iota Pi, the NCU chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, held its first formal installation of members during commencement festivities in Prescott May 31, 2008.

Alpha Phi Sigma (APS) is the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. Founded in 1942 at Washington State University by 17 Police Science students and Dr. Vivian A. Leonard, APS today has over 280 chapters nationwide.

Last fall Northcentral University was honored by being the first 100% online university granted a charter by the national society. Alpha Phi Sigma is the third honor society with a chapter at NCU—with Kappa Delta Pi (Education) and Delta Mu Delta (Business Administration) being the others. In each case, NCU was the first 100% online university so honored. Today, 24 NCU Learners, faculty, and academic administrators are members of the Iota Pi chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma.

Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic excellence by graduate and undergraduate students of criminal justice and by law students. To attain membership, undergraduates must maintain a minimum 3.2 overall GPA; the minimum GPA for graduate students is a 3.4 and for law students, 2.5. Candidates must be recommended to the Alpha Phi Sigma national office by the Chapter Advisor.

The Chapter Advisor to Iota Pi, the Alpha Phi Sigma chapter at NCU, is Candace Karsjens. Gabriele Suboch and Dr. John House are assistant advisors; all three are faculty in NCU's School of Business & Technology Management.

During commencement week activities at NCU, new members were also installed in Delta Mu Delta, the National Honor Society for Business, and Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society for Educators.
