September 11, 2007 – E.J. Krause & Associates and Northcentral University (www.ncu.edu), a leader in online higher education for security and law enforcement professionals, have joined to sponsor the first annual Maritime Security Expo “Call for Papers” competition. The winner will be announced at the Maritime Security Expo held November 27-28, 2007, in New York City at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

The purpose of this collaboration is to solicit collegiate information from academics, students, analysts, and researchers to address issues of national concern related to the security of the Maritime Transportation System. The winner will receive a $1,000 Savings Bond, an opportunity to present their work at the Expo, and have the paper distributed to conference attendees.

Submitted papers for this year’s competition must relate to the following issue: Waterborne Improvised Explosive Devices (WBIED): How to detect and defeat in a domestic law enforcement environment while limiting risk to the public and security forces alike. Papers should consider use of force issues versus rules of engagement, and preservation of civil rights.

Mr. Ned Krause, President of E.J. Krause & Associates, commented, “We are delighted to join with Northcentral University (NCU), which is both regionally and ACBSP accredited and one of the nation’s leaders in 100% online higher education programs, to stimulate intellectual discussion and commentary on the critical issues surrounding security for the Maritime Transportation System.” Continued Dr. Claudia Santin, President of Northcentral University, “It is my pleasure that NCU will co-sponsor this academic endeavor to benefit Homeland Security.
